Sales versus “Selling” Real Estate”

Before I entered the real estate industry I was in Sales and Marketing for over seventeen years. Some may ask why did I make the change to real estate. Real Estate is a tough industry I will be the first to admit that however, a challenge has never scared me.

In my past career, I was driven by goals. It was not unlikely that I was at the top of the leaderboard every month with my sales. I loved sales and I believe sales loved me. One thing I will clarify is that I never felt like I was selling anything. I had relationships with my clients. I had a great connection with them. Some of them are my most cherished friends after all of this time.

When I was with my clients in a business setting I NEVER made it about the sale I made it about my client and their needs. I was never pushy about them making a decision. I educated them about the decision that they were about to make or not make.

Moving into real estate I felt that this was somewhat of a natural transition. By that I mean I love people and I have always believed that everyone should have a home I was very familiar with the “sales world” if that is what we must call it.

As I mentioned above, I always educated my clients. I was not there to sell them a product. Ok yes, I was there to sell a product, but it never felt like that. I was helping them. I was helping them by giving them the tools that they needed to succeed. I feel that is the same way with a home. I am educating them the best way I can so that they can succeed.

I am sure you are wondering how can they succeed with owning a home and I will tell you many ways. You succeed with the goal of owning a home. The satisfaction that what you do every day rewards you when you come home every night. When you sit down in your kitchen and have a meal that you made for your friends or family, that is a success. You bring your new baby home from the hospital, that is a success. Your children have all of their friends over on a Friday night and you know they are safe at home and feel comfortable having their friends over to your home, that is a success. Family comes from out of town to stay in your home and not a hotel because it is comfortable, that is a success. Success can be defined in many different ways.

One reason that I do believe I have been successful thus far in my real estate career is that I have done the “sales” thing. I worked for local companies and publicly traded companies. I have sat through EBITA meetings. Don’t ask me what that is. All I know is that it is a fancy name for the numbers. I have been in companies where we were downsized and I was one of the only ones left standing and I just couldn’t take it anymore. But I was not done with educating my clients to help them succeed.

I have met a few fellow realtors and I just don’t understand why they are selling real estate. Well, actually I think I do I just don’t want to say it out loud. I have seen them come to closings in raggedy clothes with paint on their hands, I had one who told me she did not have email on her phone and would check her email on Monday when she was back in the office, this was Friday after 5. This is 2019 right? I could go on and on.

My point is why I am good at selling real estate and why I don’t give up until I find a home (or have sold a home) for my clients.

  1. I will educate you on the process. How can you buy or sell your home if you don’t know what is going on?
  2. I will keep you informed throughout the entire process. Maybe even a little too much.
  3. No pressure. This is not about me it is about you. I want you to have a home, make memories and enjoy every minute you spend there with no regrets.
  4. I will be your advocate. That is why you have chosen me. I will be by your side during the entire process.
  5. If I don’t know the answer I will find it for you. I never said I was a genius.

My whole point of this article is that if you chose me to be your agent know that I will work for you. I will not sell you a new house that you don’t want. I will take pride in being with you on a showing and making you a priority and most importantly I will educate you on the process. It is not selling real estate, it is educating you about the real estate process. How can you purchase or sell a house, business, or land if you do not know the process and what to expect? I am not saying I am going to teach you every vocabulary word or law. I will educate you on the experience.
